پژوهش حاضر با هدف مقایسه ترکیب و تنوع گونه­ای پوشش گیاهی در طول کاتنا، در دو توده­ی مدیریت شده و مدیریت نشده راش جنگل اسالم انجام شد. برای هر یک از توده­ها سه ساختار کاتنا V شکل در نظر گرفته شد. سپس در امتداد هر کاتنا و در موقعیت شیب­ها (قله، شانه، پشتی، پای و پنجه شیب) ، قطعات نمونه 400 متر مربعی با حداقل فاصله به­صورت انتخابی برای بررسی وضعیت تراکم و تنوع گونه­های درختی و درون هر یک از آن­ها نیز زیر قطعه نمونه ­های چهار متر مربعی برای مطالعه ترکیب و تنوع زادآوری و پوشش علفی پیاده شد. جهت تحلیل شاخص­ های تنوع، غنا و یکنواختی از شاخص­ های سیمپسون، مارگالف و کامارگو استفاده شد. نتایج نشان داد گونه راش بالاترین درصد تاج پوشش و بیشترین تراکم زادآوری را دارد. اثر موقعیت شیب بر شاخص تنوع سیمپسون و یکنواختی کامارگو در گونه ­های درختی و همچنین تنوع سیمپسون و غنای مارگالف در گونه­ های علفی معنی­ دار بود ولی در مورد زادآوری هیچ یک از شاخص ­ها معنی­ دار نشد. گونه­ های Dryopteris filix-mass L. وAsperula odorata L.  بالاترین فراوانی را به ­ترتیب در توده ­های مدیریت شده و نشده دارا بودند. با توجه به این­که فرم غالب زمین در رویشگاه­ های جنگلی شمال کشور به ­صورت افت و خیزهای متوالی (کاتنا) می ­باشد، بنابراین لازم است اجرای برنامه­ های جنگل­ شناسی (حفاظت، احیا، توسعه و بهره­ برداری) با توجه ویژه به مدیریت کاتنا صورت گیرد.
