در این پژوهش به بررسی کلیه مقالاتی که درباره پدیده زوال بلوط در جنگل‌های ایران به چاپ رسیده است، پرداخته شد. بر این اساس، 112 مقاله در 51 نشریه بررسی شد و اطلاعات ارائه‌شده در هر مقاله، تحلیل و درنهایت جمع­بندی شد. بیشترین سهم مقالات (87 درصد) مربوط به بلوط ایرانی (Quercus brantii Lindl.) بود. براساس نتایج، بیشترین تمرکز مطالعات درباره آفات و بیماری­های مسبب زوال درختان بلوط بود. بین ویژگی­های کمّی درختان و زوال، نتایج متناقض به ­دست آمد. درباره ارتباط زوال با ویژگی‌های توده، تنها نتایج در دو مورد کپه ­ای بودن الگوی پراکنش درختان زوال­ یافته و رابطه مستقیم تراکم درختان با زوال درختان دارای قطعیت بود. درباره ارتباط مشخصه ­های فیزیوگرافی و زوال درختان، یافته­ ها در بیشتر موارد متناقض بود. نتیجه­ قطعی درباره رابطه زوال با ویژگی­های خاک این بود که زوال درختان در خاک­های کم­ عمق بیشتر از خاک­های عمیق است. در بخش اقلیمی، کاهش بارش و افزایش مقادیر پارامترهای اقلیمی دمای هوا، سرعت باد، تشعشع خورشیدی، تبخیر، تعرّق و گردوغبار سبب افزایش احتمال زوال درختان یا تشدید این پدیده شده است. همچنین، مشارکت بیشتر مردم محلی برای رویارویی با زوال و تقویت وضع اقتصادی آن­ها در مطالعات مختلف تأکید شده است. به استناد منابع، به ­کارگیری بانکت به­ همراه قرق منطقه و برش شاخه ­های خشکیده به­احتمال فراوان سبب کندتر شدن روند زوال در درختان خواهد شد. درمجموع، پژوهش‌های موجود دلالت بر دو ویژگی مهم پدیده زوال شامل چندبعدی و پیچیده بودن و پراکنده‌پژوهی داشتند. همچنین، ‌به‌نظر می‌رسد با گذشت زمان، گستره مناطق درگیر با این پدیده افزایش یافته و جای خالی برخی پژوهش‌های ضروری درباره این پدیده احساس می‌شود.
