ذخیره کربن به ­وسیله جنگل­های طبیعی، جنگل­های دست­ کاشت، مراتع و خاک مناسب­ترین راهکار کاهش کربن اتمسفری است. این پژوهش در سال‌ 1397 با هدف ارزیابی تاثیر پخش­ سیلاب بر میزان زی­توده و ذخیره کربن در اندام­ های مختلف درختان در جنگل­های دست­ کاشت اوکالیپتوس (Eucalyptus camaldulensis) و آکاسیا (Acacia salicina) در ایستگاه کوثر واقع در دشت گربایگان فسا انجام شد. پس از کف­برکردن درختان، اقدام به جداسازی تنه، شاخه­ ها و برگ­ها شد. علاوه­بر این، میزان لاشبرگ تولید شده در سایه ­انداز درختان مورد­ بررسی نیز جمع­ آوری و توزین شد. پس از آن، نمونه­ های خشک ­شده به‌‌‌وسیله آسیاب برقی پودر شدند و میزان کربن آلی موجود در نمونه­ ها شامل تنه، شاخه، برگ و لاشبرگ، به­ روش خاکستر کردن در کوره الکتریکی اندازه ­گیری شد. داده ­های به ­دست آمده در قالب طرح‌ آماری بلوک­ های کامل تصادفی تجزیه و تحلیل شده و میانگین­ها با آزمون توکی در سطح 5 درصد مقایسه ­شدند. نتایج نشان­ داد برگ­ها کمترین میزان زی­توده و ذخیره کربن و تنه بیش­ترین میزان زی­توده و ذخیره کربن را به­ خود اختصاص داده ­اند. علاوه بر­این، مشخص شد در جنگل دست­ کاشت اوکالیپتوس (نوار اول)، بیش­ترین کربن به­ میزان 187/56 تن در هکتار به‌صورت بافت ­های زنده گیاهی شامل تنه، شاخه و برگ و به­ شکل لاشبرگ ذخیره شده ­است. با توجه به این­که هر تن کربن معادل با 3/67 تن گاز دی­ اکسید­کربن است، می‌توان نتیجه ­گرفت که مقدار 688/34 تن گاز دی­اکسید­کربن موجود در هوا در اندام‌‌‌های­  مختلف گیاه و در لاشبرگ به­ صورت ماده آلی ذخیره شده ­است. در صورتی­که در آکاسیا، میزان ذخیره ­کربن، 72/81 و معادل دی­اکسید­کربن ذخیره­شده، 21/267 تن در هکتار بود. ارزش اقتصادی-زیست­ محیطی این مقدار کربن ذخیره‌شده، به­ ترتیب معادل 78/5 و 24/2 میلیارد ریال در هکتار محاسبه شد. با توجه به 32 سال پخش­سیلاب در این عرصه ­ها، هر هکتار از عرصه جنگل اوکالیپتوس و آکاسیا به ­طور متوسط‌ سالانه به­ ترتیب، 21/51 و 8/35 تن گاز دی­ اکسید­کربن موجود در هوا را به­ صورت ماده آلی ذخیره کرده­ اند. از این نظر، جنگل دست­ کاشت اوکالیپتوس نقش بیش­تری در کاهش آلودگی هوا ایفاء نموده است. ارزش زیست‌‌‌محیطی اکسیژن تولید شده در جنگل اوکالیپتوس و آکاسیا (به ­ترتیب 0/47 میلیارد­ ریال و 74/52 میلیون­ ریال) نیز به ارزش زیست­محیطی کاهش دی ­اکسید­کربن اضافه­ شده و جمع ارزش­  کارکرد اقتصادی آن­ها به ­ترتیب معادل 6/25 و 2/32 میلیارد ریال می­ گردد. بنابراین، توسعه روش جنگل ­کاری با اوکالیپتوس در مناطق مستعد پخش ­سیلاب با شرایط مشابه، از منظر ذخیره کربن دارای توجیه اقتصادی بیش­تری بوده و پیشنهاد می ­گردد.
