  سازوکار جنگلکاری تشخیص مناطق مناسب برای جنگلکاری و مناطقی با بیشترین تناسب برای گونه های مختلف است. با این وجود موفقیت این سازوکار نیازمند تعیین دقیق نیاز اکولوژیک گونه ­ها و ارزیابی اراضی قبل از اجرای جنگلکاری است. هدف از این مطالعه ارزیابی توان اکولوژیک و تخمین زی‌توده رو­زمینی جنگلکاری­های حوزه آبخیز دارابکلا می ­باشد به گونه­ ای که بتوان گونه ­های مورد نظر را بر اساس دو هدف فوق اولویت­ بندی نمود و برای جنگلکاری در این منطقه در آینده بر اساس اولویت گونه­ ها جنگلکاری  نمود. در این تحقیق ابتدا مکان­ یابی مناطق مستعد جنگلکاری  با استفاده از تابع جستجوگرSQL  در محیط نرم­افزار Arc GIS 10.3، صورت گرفت. سپس میزان جذب کربن به ازای هر هکتار جنگلکاری با گونه ­های مورد نظر با استفاده از پارامترهای اندازه­گیری شده درختان و معادلات آلومتریک تخمین زده شد. نتایج این مطالعه نشان داد که:با ارزیابی توان اکولوژیک منطقه مورد مطالعه و همچنین بررسی میزان موجودی کربن می­توان نتیجه گرفت که گونه­ های پلت، ون و شیردار بیشترین سازگاری را از نظر اکولوژیک با منطقه مورد مطالعه داشته و همچنین بعد از بلندمازو بیشترین میزان موجودی کربن در هکتار را به خود اختصاص داده ­اند. بنابراین این گونه­ ها به همراه بلندمازو برای جنگلکاری در منطقه در اولویت قرار دارند. با توجه به اینکه جنگلکاری­ هایی که تاکنون صورت گرفته بیشتر بر اساس توان اکولوژیک گونه­ ها بوده است، این مطالعه به در نظر گرفتن اهداف چندگانه به منظور جنگلکاری تاکید دارد. یعنی علاوه بر توان اکولوژیک سایر اهداف نیز در نظر گرفته شود.
